2022 Estate Zinfandel
The 2022 growing can be best described in one word – HOT! A heat wave came through the Valley, hotter than anything we have seen in recent memory. Dry Creek saw multiple days of over 110 degrees, with one of those days topping out at 118 on the farm! This created some harvesting challenges, but we were lucky to have some really hard working and dedicated picking teams that were still able to get the fruit off the vine before it turned everything into raisins. Another huge factor is that we keep our Estate fruit crop load so minimal which means we get development and concertation earlier in the season than most. This saved us in 2022, and the resulting wine is quite lovely, showing a very nice balance of both power and elegance.
The nose on the 2022 is so quintessential earthy Zinfandel spice, and also carries concentrated strawberry and dark chocolate fudge notes. The palate shows quite a bit of elegance, sitting medium bodied and quite pretty. There is still concentrated fruit notes typical to the Estate wines, but perhaps slightly more elegant. The finish is beautiful acidity that plays so well concentrated fruit notes and soft finishing tannins.
