2019 Teldeschi

One of our favorite vineyards!  Located on the Dry Creek bench, these gnarly old vines have been producing fruit for around 115 years.  The site is dry farmed, and yields are abysmal – part of the reason the fruit is so concentrated and delicious.  When vines get this old, the winemaker’s job in many ways gets easier… these vines have seen it all, and can weather their way through just about anything. The end of the season turns their leaves yellow and the vines give their final ripening push, which is its way of saying “pick me!”  We listen, and the result is a deeply concentrated, wonderfully balanced Zinfandel.

The nose is rich and layered, betraying a very masculine, dark fruited wine.  Roasted coffee beans, exotic spice, and chocolate also contribute aromatically.  More layers and richness push forward on the palate, with feminine tannin notes keeping the lushness in check.  Palate flavors of black cherry cola, chocolate covered raspberry, and more spice can also be detected.  The finish carries length and silk, with overriding notes of blueberry and oak inspired spices.
