Teldeschi is one of our favorite vineyards!  Located on the Dry Creek bench, these gnarly old vines have been producing fruit for around 115 years.  The site is dry-farmed, and yields are abysmal – part of the reason the fruit is so concentrated and delicious.  When vines get this old, the winemaker’s job in many ways gets easier… these vines have seen it all and can weather their way through just about anything.  The end of the season turns their leaves yellow and the vines give their final ripening push, which is its way of saying “pick me!”  We listen, and the result is a deeply concentrated, wonderfully balanced Zinfandel.

The 2017 vintage is a pleasant struggle of fruit and spice.  The aromatics call out cinnamon and sugar pancakes and Grandma’s homemade strawberry jam.  Upon the first sip, taste buds stand up straight, with the weight and impressive concentration of this wine showing no mercy.  Softer tannins quickly appear and round out the mouthfeel, accompanied by more powerful blackberry and strawberry fruit notes.  The finish is perhaps the most intense component of the wine, with oak inspired graham cracker, more spice, and caramelized sugar.  This wine is complex and will age beautifully.  We recommend decanting prior to serving to mellow out its relative youth.
